The Associated Press Society of Ohio has announced the winners of its annual newspaper awards, in 5 divisions, ranging from daily circulation up to 7,999 (Division I) to daily circulation above 75,000 (Division V). The National Portrait Gallery, London, is accepting entries from photographers 18 and older from around the world for the 2013 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.

2013 World Press Photo awards winners announced

World Press Photo has announced the winners of its 2013 World Press Photo awards, with Swedish photographer Paul Hansen’s photo of the funeral procession for two Palestinian children taking top honors as Photo of the Year. It was originally published in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

APPEARANCES 2013, Provincetown (MA) Green Arts Festival, call for entries

Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) Aspire Awards call for entries

The Adobe Foundation is accepting entries for the second Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) Aspire Awards,  described by its sponsors as “…a global, online challenge inviting youth to creatively express their vision for driving change in local communities.” There are 8 standard content categories, and a special category, the UNICEF Challenge, for video proposals for a project that entrants would like to launch in their local communities.

The International Museum of Women (IMOW) is seeking entries for an on-line exhibition on the theme of motherhood, from artists, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, and writers. 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards call for entries

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, is accepting entries for the 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for teens in grades 7-12. The 28 categories include, among others: film and animation, video game design, sculpture, photography, fashion design, poetry, journalism, humor, dramatic script, and science fiction.

Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is accepting entries for the North American Indian Photography Contest though October 1, 2011. Bluewater Photo & Video announced a call for entries for the first annual South California Shootout, an underwater photography event that will take place at any dive site south of Point Conception, California from September 16 through 18, 2011. Images may be from SLRs, compact cameras, and videos.

International Underwater Photographic Competition Call for Entries

The Los Angeles Underwater Photographic Society (LAUPS) announced its International Underwater Photographic Competition is now accepting entries. The contest for amateur photographers has categories of macro, wide-angle, behavior, cold water, video raw and video edited. There is also an open category that accepts both professional and amateur entrants.

Jewish Heritage Museum calls for photography exhibit entries

The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, New Jersey, has announced a call for entries for a juried photography exhibit. The exhibit will focus on photographs that represent Monmouth County’s Jewish experience.

The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers, working in film or digital format. The professionals will be judged separately from the amateurs. Images must have been photographed in Monmouth County to qualify, although there is no residency requirement for participants. Composing with Images Press Call for Entries: Toy Cameras

Composing with Images Press (CWiP) is looking for photographs taken with toy cameras for a forthcoming photo book. The book will explore and represent the concept of Play, and all proceeds from the book sales will be donated to The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, for the benefit of children who were victims of the 2011 tornadoes. This call is open worldwide to amateur and professional photographers working with toy, low-tech, homemade, or modified analog cameras. The deadline is August 1, 2011.

Call for entries: West Virginia Juried Exhibition

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History is calling for entries for its biennial West Virginia Juried Exhibition. There will be an awards ceremony and opening reception at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Stifel Fine Arts Center at Oglebay Institute in Wheeling. The show will remain on display through Jan. 2, 2012.

The Exhibition is for works created in the past two years in the areas of painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography, mixed media and crafts. Entrants must be permanent residents of West Virginia, and 18 year of age or older. The deadline for entries, in the form of slides or digital images, is July 18, 2011.

NSF, Science Visualization Challenge Call for Entries

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the journal Science announced the call for entries for the Visualization Challenge, recognizing innovative work in visual communication.

NSF and Science will appoint judges to select winners in each of five categories: Photography, Illustrations, Informational Posters and Graphics, Interactive Games and Videos. Winning entries will be will be displayed on the NSF website, and published in Science and Science Online.

Travel Photographer of the Year

Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) is accepting entries. Winning and other highly-placed images appear in the TPOTY ‘Journey’ series of books and are exhibited at the Royal Geographical Society in the UK. The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages, from anywhere in the world.

This year, categories include four Portfolio categories (Cultures & Traditions, Natural Elements, Exotic; and Spirit of Adventure); two single image categories, – One Shot and First Shot; the New Talent category; the Young Travel Photographer of the Year award (with two different age groups); and the Travel Photographer of the Year award.

Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize

The National Portrait Gallery in London, England, is calling for entries for the 2011Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, a major international photographic award.

The prize contest is open to all photographers over the age of 18; the online application form is available at NPG Photoprize. Of the 60 or so photographers selected for exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, one will receive an award of £12,000. The exhibition will run at the National Portrait Gallery, from Nov. 10, 2011 until Feb. 12, 2012.

Also, ELLE magazine will commission a photographer selected for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize exhibition to shoot a feature story for the magazine.

The closing date for entries is July 7, 2011.
